Amy is not a career politician, but an engaged citizen. She has been and continues to be responsive to the issues facing District 9. As President and one of the founding members of Islanders for Responsible Expansion (IRE) Amy has worked to protect James Island, Folly Beach, Johns and Kiawah Island from irresponsible development including:
- Saving wetlands and trees by halting the expansion of the Folly Road Wal Mart.
- Preventing the destruction of 43 grand oaks by working with stakeholders to develop a better plan at the intersection of Camp & Folly Roads.
- Preserving the integrity and historical significance of Morris Island by opposing its inappropriate development.
- Monitoring and supporting the permitting of environmentally appropriate dock permits.
- Reducing negative impacts of development on the Angel Oak.
Amy believes that development and protecting our environment are not mutually exclusive goals. Amy’s strength lies in persuading elected officials to listen to the concerns of ordinary people who don’t believe they have a voice. She has been diligent in researching issues to help citizens and decision makers arrive at a consensus.
As a longtime resident of James Island, Amy is passionate about preserving our quality of life and she has put that passion to work for the citizens of District 9.
